Today's Weather Outlook

A powerful early summer storm system will bring a volatile mix of severe thunderstorms, flash flooding, and heavy rainfall to much of the central and eastern United States today, while the West enjoys a break under sunny skies and seasonable temperatures.
The most intense weather is expected across the Midwest and Great Lakes, where a strong cold front will ignite widespread thunderstorms from Missouri to Michigan. The strongest storms will be found from St. Louis to Detroit, where damaging winds, heavy rainfall and even a few tornadoes are possible.
The Southeast will remain locked in a wet pattern as a stationary front lingers over the region. From Atlanta to Miami, expect frequent thunderstorms, some of which could turn severe. Heavy rain will be the main concern, with localized flooding possible in urban and low-lying areas.
The Mid-Atlantic and Northeast will see a mix of sun and storms, with the most active weather expected this afternoon and evening. Cities like Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York could experience strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing gusty winds and flooding.
In the central and southern Plains, scattered thunderstorms will continue to rumble. Some storms may become severe, especially this afternoon, with hail and strong winds the primary threats. For the Rockies and Intermountain West, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are anticipated, with even a bit of June snow possible in the higher elevations of the northern Rockies.
The West Coast will enjoy the best weather in the country, thanks to a strong high-pressure system. From California to Washington, skies will be mostly sunny with mild temperatures and light winds. No significant weather is expected, making it a perfect day for outdoor activities.
The hottest conditions will be found in southern Texas and Florida, where highs will soar into the mid to upper 90s. On the other side of the coin, the coolest spots will be in the northern Rockies and parts of the Upper Midwest, with highs only in the 50s and 60s. Meanwhile, much of the East Coast will see 70s to low 80s, while the West Coast enjoys 60s and 70s. Interior valleys will reach the 80s and even lower 90s.
